About Us

Golem’s Gate is co-owned by Tama (pronounced like “tame a cat, tame a dog, tame a lion”) Keller, her husband Jason, and their son Christian. The name arose from a fascination with the legendary golem, a construct brought to life via words on paper inserted in its mouth. The original location was founded in 2017 in Stafford. After nine years and thousands of tabletop adventures, their rented space had to close. Jason, Tama, Christian, and dedicated store regulars helped them pack up and find a new location. After months of questing, they found this permanent spot for Golem’s Gate on Beltway 8.

$5 per hour to play. You are welcome to sit in and watch a session of a game if you’re not ready to join – for free.

Tama Keller

“I first played D&D when I was 12 years old, with my big brother. After college I didn’t play for many years, until at a convention we wandered in to the gaming room. It looked incredibly complicated, but a kind DM said if we gave him 30 minutes, he’d take us through a battle and we’d be hooked. We loved it so much that three years later, we opened our own game shop!”

Jason Keller

“I was first a player at Golem’s Gate and then a Dungeon Master. After the shop reopened for in-person games following the pandemic, I came on staff. I also continue to run a kids’ table for more than two years. I love our customers; they’re the best people! It really says something that we manage a welcoming place for high stakes games with the characters our players love, and they keep coming back for more.”
